CAFTAN WOMAN, THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY POST

by @JazzysArt

On Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Caftan Woman came to the internet with the posting of this original poem. It is a character piece. Who would you cast as this woman?

TOOLS

The old woman glared.
The glare that had made lovers weep
and children rebel.
We followed in her wake
as the store manager opened the express line.

I used a photo of one of my favourite actresses Esther Howard as Miz Zeffie in Sullivan's Travels for my first profile picture. If you will recall, she is the farm woman who was so warm for Joel McCrea's form. Seemed appropriate.

This beautiful and obsolete machine was my first official logo. It represents how I made my living for many years and the hobby that has enriched my life for many more.

Sharing the love of classic film, and more with the blogging world has proven both a challenging and joyful experience. I am eternally grateful for the friendships and the fun. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

  9. Congrats on your 10th anniversary! I've only been at it for three months. I've been reading my way through all your old reviews. It's gonna take a while. I agree blogging is very satisfying.

For the old woman of the poem I would cast Marie Dressler.

And I'm still typing my reviews on an old battered red Remington typewriter, trying to make some all-important deadline because my editor begged me to...well, at least in my alternate reality.

    1. I understand your alternate reality very well. My inner editor is a real slave driver.

At three months I was still finding my way. At three months you are like an old pro at this game. Keep having fun.

  12. You.

I think the blogging community should cannonize you. For your unflagging support of old films and other bloggers. For your thoughtful, encouraging comments. For your wisdom and humour, which you never seem to run short of.

    You are my blogging hero.

  13. A bit late offering my congratulations but here goes anyway. 10 years is a significant amount of time in the land of blog and shows a lot of dedication - bravo (or perhaps brava?) and long may you continue.
