I hope folks who haven't yet seen Panic in the Streets become new fans, and old fans enjoy it all over again.Caftan Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05936895555808823221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-331373971294623620.post-90408136440660776682018-09-03T15:46:38.425-07:002018-09-03T15:46:38.425-07:00Paddy Lee, another really good write-up of a Class...Paddy Lee, another really good write-up of a Classic. PANIC IN THE STREETS is a humdinger of street realism. I really like your description of, "We feel the heat of the sun and the heat of the crowded clubs in the night." Elia Kazan and Joseph MacDonald didn't take us on a tourist trip to the French Quarter, they took us to the non-tourist part of New Orleans.

What a cast, and I find myself saying that about any Classic, because that is a great part of why they are Classic Movies. Yes, Barbara Bel Geddes(I love her name) was a wonderful actress. I really like her in I REMEMBER MAMA(1948) and BLOOD ON THE MOON(1948). And Zero Mostel - don't count on this guy to hold up under Pressure. No one did sweaty fear better. And what an awesome cast! I can't believe how young Barbara Be Geddes looks in that photo. The movies saw him, at first, mainly as a dramatic actor. You can catch him in a couple of comedies, but not as the comic foil (The Model and the Marriage Broker, Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell) Then they couldn't see him at all when he was blacklisted. He is very good in Panic in the Streets and the tough crime picture The Enforcer. I wonder how his career would have progressed if it weren't for the blacklist.
