Both are impressive achievements and I feel I'd really be missing out on a lot without good ol' George Apley. Because I'm so fond of the movie, I made a point of raeding the book a few years ago. This sounds really good, really, really good. Part of the reason is your writing, and I have to compliment you on a particular phrase that I think is just sterling -- "... sister Amelia played like a battleship in full sail by Mildred Natwick ..." Good stuff!ClassicBeckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03591715859057540467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-331373971294623620.post-37085856048264504612013-09-15T09:16:06.038-07:002013-09-15T09:16:06.038-07:00I want to see this film!!! After seeing Colman's performance as our stuff-shirted Georgie boy I can't quite picture Leo G. Carroll in the original stage role. You wrote an excellent review to a real gem of a film..and you brought up a good point about the "Late" in The Late George Apley. Perhaps the writers were referring to the new versus the "old" George after his - supposed - shedding of his old ways? The Metzinger Sistershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10728879307994086409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-331373971294623620.post-27835873984077221202013-09-14T17:44:54.065-07:002013-09-14T17:44:54.065-07:00CW, I'm with all you on the way on this wonder...CW, I'm with all you on the way on this wonderful picture (which I never saw until a couple of years ago). Colman is terrific as George, but the film is well cast all around. What I love about it is the way that George recognizes what has done and then decides to do about it.Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-331373971294623620.post-11746356331739075762013-09-14T10:27:19.320-07:002013-09-14T10:27:19.320-07:00I've never seen this! Thanks for another terrific review.

Maybe George was an alien from Vulcan.
