  1. ARTHUR TREACHER and ANITA LOUISE, who were in PERSONAL MAIDS SECRET, were also in THE LITTLE PRINCESS with SHIRLEY TEMPLE, MARCIA MAE JONES and MARY NASH. Treacher played the brother to Nash. Temple, Treacher, Jones and Nash were also in HEIDI two years earlier. Heidi came out in 1937. I remember Arthur Treacher dancing with little Shirley Temple in The Little Princess. MISS NASH certainly played mean/bad women well. She got to play mean to Shirley twice. I never saw JANE WITHERS work with Shirley but I know she played a bratty girl. Maybe the studio should have paired Jane up with Mary. Jane could be Marys bratty daughter and they could be mean to Shirley again! I like Shirley Temple by the way. I bet a lot of people were mad at Miss Nash for being mean to adorable Shirley. P.S. I like SYBIL JASON in THE LITTLE PRINCESS too. That's the only movie Ive seen Sybil in. I read she retired in 1940 when she was still a child.

  2. Speaking of the name RUTH on the previous page I want to mention five other actresses with the name RUTH. There was RUTH ROMAN, HUSSEY, NELSON and WHITE. I immediately thought of RUTH MCDEVITT. She did 3 eps of ALL IN THE FAMILY as JO, the lady friend to the man in his pajamas that Edith brought home. He had left the nursing home and later Archie called the mans daughter to come get him-which she wouldn't. The man was played by BURT MUSTIN. Miss McDevitt did two eps of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Later she did 2 movies with DON KNOTTS and a movie and a TV-Movie with ANDY GRIFFITH. When she guest starred on Andys show Don had already left. Do you recall Ruth from her 3 eps of BEWITCHED? In one she played the queen of the witches or something like that. It had the first DARRIN-DICK YORK. In one she played a neighbor lady that had a bunch of cats. Darrin didn't appear in that ep. Her last ep had DICK SARGENT as Darrin. She played the aunt of LOUISE(KASEY ROGERS), the wife of LARRY TATE(DAVID WHITE).

  4. CAFTAN WOMAN, I really enjoy reading your blog and adding my comments. I also enjoy reading the other comments. I wonder why you didn't respond to my last two posts. I have never written anything inappropriate. Last week I only put on five posts. If my posts are (sometimes) too long I will make them shorter. Thank you.

    1. I couldn't think of anything to say when I first read your posts. I would have returned eventually after taking care of other on and offline things.

  5. Thank you. One actress that played maids a lot was MARY WICKES. I remember that you said you watched FATHER DOWLING MYSTERIES. Mary was in two DORIS DAY movies as a maid and I mentioned before that she was the housekeeper on SIGMUND AND THE SEA MONSTERS with JOHNNY WHITAKER. She was a unique actress. She did an ep of MURDER, SHE WROTE. Also do you like the work of RUTH MCDEVITT?

    1. Mary Wickes is a favourite actress of mine. She made her movie debut in The Man Who Came to Dinner playing the role of the nurse that she created on Broadway. She went on to play that role in several television versions of the play.

Ruth McDevitt was excellent. I recently caught up with the short run of Pistols and Petticoats in which she starred with Ann Sheridan and Douglas Fowley. I recall her spot on All in the Family, but don't remember The Andy Griffith Show. That is a show that never really appealed to me.

Mary Nash is so much fun to hate in The Little Princess and Heidi. My favourite of her movie roles is in Charlie Chan in Panama with Sidney Toler and Victor Sen Yung.

  6. Speaking of ANN SHERIDAN she worked with MARY WICKES in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. Some other movies that I saw Ann in are COME NEXT SPRING(that Ive mentioned before), and I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE with CARY GRANT. Also I want to mention that Mary Wickes worked with LUCILLE BALL on her shows including I LOVE LUCY where Lucy tries to learn ballet. Mary and Lucy were real-life friends and Mary was also friends with DORIS DAY. LUCILLE BALL and DORIS DAY! There were no bigger names than those two!

    1. Doris Day said on the TCM tribute that she felt the people in On Moonlight Bay and By the Light of the Silvery Moon felt like family to her, and that would include Mary Wickes.

Ann Sheridan was expert at comedy but I generally consider her first in her dramas like They Drive by Night and Angels with Dirty Faces.

  7. ANN SHERIDAN was once married to EDWARD NORRIS. According to imdb the marriage was from 1936 to 1938. Norris did two eps of PERRY MASON. He also did an ELLERY QUEEN movie in 1942. He was also married and divorced from SHEILA RYAN. MISS RYAN was married to ALLAN LANE who some people will know his voice as.....the talking horse MISTER ED! Sheila later married a fine character actor-PAT BUTTRAM. They were married for over 20 years until her passing in 1975. Pat is probably best known for his GREEN ACRES role as MR. HANEY. He also worked with GENE AUTRY. ANN SHERIDAN and SHEILA RYAN-two very attractive women.

    1. Edward Norris was a very interesting actor. Excellent in They Won't Forget.

Sheila's marriage to Allan certainly didn't last very long. It is nice she found happiness with Pat Buttram. I have seen Sheila in some Gene Autry movies. It seems as if she could always work for him when she had the time, and she and Pat could drive to work together.
